Rocky Mountain Moments

A Splash of Color

Today was my first chance to take a leisurely photo walk since getting home.  I was disappointed that there were almost no birds at the local ponds.  I saw a Double Crested Cormorant fly over and a few Mallards on the shore but none of the regulars seemed to be around.  Then I saw a yellow flash in the shrubbery and I spotted this American Goldfinch.  I haven't seen one since early summer.  They come to our feeder in the winter when they are dull colored and stay until they are bright yellow, then leave again until it gets cold.  It was nice to see this bright little bird today.  :-)
This is one that really looks better on the dark background.
