Abandoned Island

I spent the afternoon at Burnham-on-Crouch dealing with family business with my sister. On the way home I took a detour to Althorne Creek. The single track road took me past Althorne station where I used to catch the train to Chancery Lane where I worked in the sixties.

My pic is of Bridgemarsh Island. A disused wharf can be seen and the remains of a brickworks. The flood of 1953 caused the end of regular occupation of the island, which is now a haven for wildlife and salt marsh flowers. A yacht is plying up the River Crouch to the south.
