The very heart of Leeds.

Late blip tonight as we are just back from a pleasant afternoon and evening in Leeds.

Stopped here at Whitelocks for some refreshment as it was very warm and muggy. As you can see from the blue plaque it is one of the oldest parts of Leeds originating in mediaeval times, then the first Turks Head was built in 1715. It was rebuilt by the Whitelock family late the next century and that is how it is now known. It is in a very narrow ginnel or alley right in the centre of the modern shopping area.
John Betjeman described it as ' the very heart of Leeds'.
quite unusual in a city with lots of ongoing new development.

We went on to Park Row for something to eat and then to the theatre. Most enjoyable.

Lots of banners in Leeds proclaiming it is a host city for the 2015 Rugby ( Union) World Cup. Not far away now, we'll watch it on the tele!

The train coming back had quite a number of over dressed and glamorous ladies who had been to York Ebor Festival races.

Good to get into the city now and again!
