Earache MyEyeInA Nutshell

Imperial museum

After yesterday's excitement at the Lowry, we thought we'd see what else Salford Quays has to offer today.
One of the big draws is the Imperial War Museum North. We were both quite surprised to find that we spent over three hours in there. Not exactly a 'fun' place to visit but it makes you reflect both on the ultimate futility of war and on the extreme bravery of ordinary men, women, children and animals who are affected by war. This photograph is of a display cabinet of uniforms from a part of the museum dedicated to women at war. So that's worth a visit.
Salford Quays is also home to Media City, a huge complex of radio and TV studios for both BBC amd ITV - Coronation Street's moving there and the BBC's sport and children's department (including Blue Peter) are already there. The architecture is impressive if a little soulless. Still, at least it seems to be a vibrant place to work and it's providing both creative and technical jobs. And I'm sure the whole place is in much better shape than it was thirty years ago.
