Preening hummingbird

I have never seen it before!  This guy was sitting on the line, swiveling his head 'round and preening the feathers on his back.  I was so captivated watching, I almost forgot to take pictures!

Once he had finished his preening, he flew in and took a good long drink from the feeder.

Also saw this pretty female house finch sitting on the line.

Everyday this week we have woken up to thunderstorms.  Hoping Erika doesn't make landfall near us next week as the soggy ground will mean more fallen trees and power lines which means more mess and more potential for injuries. :-(
