A Day Worth Recording

YearLight

Exactly one year ago we moved in and started on a Wild New Adventure.

Not sure whether it's been a long- or a short-seeming year.  Cambridge life seems a very long time ago, and we've done a vast amount here.  On the other hand quite a few things are pretty much where we put them 'temporarily' when we unpacked; especially in the rooms that are ours rather than guest rooms.

Business is good.  Utterly unpredictable; but good.  Times we'd expect to be busy, like this Bank Holiday weekend, we're not; times we assumed would be quiet, are booked up.  It was definitely a Good Plan to have both B&B and Self-catering apartments in the business mix.

We're really enjoying sharing the house, and we've had a wonderful selection of people staying.

There's been a lot of disappointment with the underlying structural state of the place, as you will have seen.  Scratch the surface practically anywhere and I'm going 'hmmmm' shortly afterwards.  Still we've found a fantastic resource in Rod & John, the roofers, and the tradesmen they've connected us with.  Incidentally, they'll be back shortly to fix the bedroom ceiling.

The garden has seen huge change - mostly involving the liberal use of saws.  Bird-knowledgeable friends who stay regularly commented that we had significantly more bird life now, compared to last year..

Indeed, I'm taking this photograph to the chorus of at least two owls.

Went to The Railway Inn tonight to mark the occasion.

We spent rather a lot of time on their WiFi in the early days as the outstandingly hostile OneBill Telecom was obstructing our phone line transfer and thus internet access, presumably in the hope we'd stick with them. Like that was going to happen.

Here's to another year.  Hopefully with fewer leaks.
