The Edge of the Wold

Giant's seat

We had the afternoon at Jack Scout with S, J and little M.  Here Wifie and M are writing a note to go into the geocache box that is hidden nearby, explaining about the Autumn Lady's Tresses orchids (see Extra photo - which neatly illustrates the specific name of Spiranthes spiralis).  Gus is sat next to them on the seat, something he was far too nervous and polite to do when we first arrived in our lives.  The Lady's Tresses are very numerous this year, there are more flowering spikes of this diminutive late season orchid than I have seen there before.

Our walk began with lunch at Wolf House, and wound up back at home with birthday cake left over from last night's celebrations.  What a lovely weekend it's been.  Reg has started using his house in the evenings again.  And there was a fine Arnside sunset too.
