horns of wilmington's cow

Caving in

Lovely walk out at Gifford today, almost all the way over to Garvald, but after a really nice, if muddy, path through the woods by a picturesque little river, then open countryside by a couple of reservoirs, and through fields of suspicious and threatening cattle, the route turned to car-tarmac for the last mile or so, so we turned back.

Spotted this oak en route, the bank underneath it having been washed away at some point, with the roots forming a fantastic little cave. I did like the Damselfly in the extra shot - the grasses behind it looking like some sort of painted background.

Not entirely sure sticking those slow sticky mud miles into the legs the day before a cross race was entirely sensible, but maybe I can call it training for the run ups.
