The odd couple

Encountered in Aso de Sobremonte, an odd little mountain village at the end of a road to nowhere. The old houses showed some sign of habitation by farmers and shepherds, but alongside them was a spanking new housing estate, completely unoccupied -- see extra. In a village 1200 metres above sea level with no services whatsoever, 8 km along a winding mountain road from the nearest town, probably cut off for at least part of the winter. What were they thinking? I'd guess it's the result of subsidies, corruption, or both.

We spent the day searching for a place to rent for a month or two. A tiring business; by the end of the day we'd found two possibilities, but neither was exactly what we are looking for. We ended the day with a glass of wine, patatas bravas, and another artisan ice cream. Off to look elsewhere tomorrow.

Almost-blip: a rather handsome door.
