Dawn over the boot of Italy

This photo at Messina Harbour in Sicily was taken as the cruise ship manoeuvred into its mooring. The boot of Italy is only 5 kilometres away and several ferries were plying to and fro across the harbour from the mainland.
Today the city is growing and developing along the coast, and due to the violent earthquakes that have struck the area on several occasions and bombardment during the second world war, it is almost completely modern. However its Cathedral Square and clock tower draws tourists to the symphony of bells accompanied by moving figures on the tower.
