Candy striped

A quick trip out after work to the little cemetery in the forest, and I found literally hundreds of these little beauties hopping about in the Rhododendron bushes...getting a decent shot was quite another matter though!
The Rhododendron leaf hopper Graphocephala fennahi, is a large and striking hopper, native to the USA (where it is called the Scarlet and Green leafhopper) and introduced to Europe in the early 1900's.
In Britain it is found mainly in the south and as the soil around Horsham is acidic with lots of wild rhododendron growing it is quite common round here!
Both the adults and nymphs feed on the sap of the rhododendron, and adults can be found from mid-summer to late autumn.
