The Dog Whisperer

That's Baxter, age 13, on the left in Phil's arms. He's a Schipperke/Chihuahua mix, tipping the scale at about ten pounds, and lives next door with S and E, our wonderful neighbors. Baxter's a geezer like us, and has mellowed over the years. (I'm not sure the same can be said of us...)

His new "brother," Roscoe, is in E's arms. Roscoe weighs six pounds, is about 18 months old, and is probably a Miniature Pinscher. He was rescued from a negligent home where he was left tied up outside in all kinds of weather. The edges of Roscoe's ears were frostbitten, and given how little body fat he has and how short his fur is, I'm amazed he didn't die in the cold. He's living the good life now, that's for sure!

Phil's going to take the dogs out a couple of times on Saturday for brief walks while S and E are away for the day. Today he had a trial run with E, learning all the details of the dogs' walk routine. A lifetime dog lover, this will be as much fun for Phil as it is for the two tiny canines!

You can see him with Baxter in the extra photo. I think calling Phil "the dog whisperer" is quite appropriate!
