Clayton Hill Canadas And Conkers

A bridge on my route to M&S is being rebuilt and the road is closed so I have to make a detour. I noticed the sign for Clayton Hill when I was in a traffic jam a couple of weeks ago so decided to check it out.

At first I was disappointed, I thought it was just fields and a lake until I ducked through a hedge and started to climb. There is indeed a hill. How lovely, especially for Essex, to be up high. I looked down on a sea of glass but nothing like in the 1930s when the Lee Valley had the greatest concentration of glasshouses in the world.

I met some nice people and their dogs and photographed skein after skein of Canada geese on the move - a sure sign of autumn.
