Runaway Growth Of Poundland

I have been watching this vast Poundland distribution centre take shape. It covers 350,000 square feet and cost £40 million pounds.

Allan Sly's Runaway Rotorvator originally stood in front of the, now defunct, Sportscentre. The artist was commissioned to create something sporty but chose to submit a rotorvator and the powers that be chose that over maquettes with a sporting theme.

It was moved to outside Pitney Bowes and bore no relation to those buildings or their use either. The Pitney Bowes facility was razed to make way for Poundland. Try as I might, I can't make a connection between an out of control rotorvator and this edifice but it does make a clean and uncluttered backdrop for the piece. Harlow, Sculpture Town and pound land.
