Yellow Sunflower Against a Blue September Sky

These are the sunflower days . . .

The sunflowers have come into full bloom at the Arboretum. I have been stalking them since they were born from seeds, and I have been visiting them almost every morning this past week. They are in that early perfect bloom stage where they are driving the bees crazy. In a short while, the seeds will start to ripen and the birds will come to feed.

I can already hear the baby goldfinches who are well past nesting stage begging their parents to feed them in the gardens. Wait till they discover the sunflower seeds!

I have mentioned that we've been having a string of perfectly gorgeous days. It is autumn in the mornings and summer in the afternoons. (Or as one of my friends recently posted, it's sweaters in the mornings and heatstroke in the afternoons.)

The sky was a perfect shade of blue that it likes to wear in September; blue enough to break your heart. And the sunflowers stood out against it, not just reflecting the sun but almost glowing as if lit by a light from within.

The song to accompany this image is a song by Heart. I understand it was written for Ann by Nancy. Here's Heart, with Sunflower.
