Stocking up

I assume this cigale (cricket) was finding some late-summer nourishment in these exotic blooms; it certainly wasn't in a hurry to move off. You hear them all the time in summer, but it's rare to actually see one and get close enough to take a photo.

Other than that an uneventful day, except that this morning I encountered an adorable tabby kitten on the square. It was only about three months old, but so healthy, clean, and well fed that I told myself that it must belong to someone, and had to wrench myself away as it leapt happily onto my lap, purring, before following me to the door and rushing inside when I opened it. We can't take in another cat, so I was relieved when S later met G, who said her partner V had found the kitten apparently abandoned while repairing a roof nearby, so she had adopted it. I don't understand how people can do this -- it was clearly domesticated and totally unafraid of humans.
