Drummond Castle gardens

In keeping with our resolution to get out and about while the weather lasts – the thought of six months approaching winter is a great incentive to make the most of the fine weather- we visited Drummond Castle gardens.

These 17th century formal gardens near Crieff are considered amongst the finest in Europe.

I overheard one American say that he never expected to have this amount of sunshine or warmth in Scotland.

While there the BBC were filming “ Homes under the Hammer”, a morning television show on BBC 1 where experts uncover the various tricks of the property auction houses. (See extra photos).

They had to reshoot scenes because a big party of foreign students were talking and laughing.

But what intrigued me was the upkeep of the garden. How many gardeners did it take to keep all those yew trees and box hedges immaculate?
Well three full time and eight part-time during the summer.

Oh yes their head gardener is a woman- and she shoots for Scotland. “A wee toughie” said one staff member
