1920s Picture Book

Another horrible wet day that began with a check-up at the dentist's and a session with the dental hygienist. Now I may never eat again for fear of soiling my teeth. Oh, well. I might have eaten a little since then ...

Came across a wonderful picture book from my late mother's childhood. It's called The Hole and Corner Book, with verses by B Parker and illustrations by N Parker, and was published by W & R Chambers of London & Edinburgh.

This is one of several verses that accompanies this delightful illustration. (All the pictures, which look like watercolours, are sepia.) Isn't it delightful?

"From out each shell come legs or beak
A neck, all wagglesome and weak,
Till five big mouths with all their power
Are seeking something to devour."
