Progress

An early morning phone call connected with cat rescue gave me the idea of driving over to Karl, the sheep farmer. On arrival the gates were unusualy closed. Assuming he was out getting supplies, took off with the dogs for a longish walk and above all a hilly one. Flash did better than I did especially as I had forgotten my trusty walking stick. Don't actually need the stick which I inherited from my father who always used it. Also not because he needed it but because it is so handy for pushing aside growth, testing ditches etc. I now feel nacked without it!

On our way back saw some movement at the farm but on getting there gates still closed. However they are only lean to sheep type gates so went in with a crate of beer I had promised Karl. The reason the gates were closed were to prevent people strolling on to the property as he had the sawmill in operation.

He was sawing logs for the hut he is building slowly, mainly at weekends. Here it is about two weeks ago. You will not find a spirit level on the site. There are some long nails and a few screws but much of the main construction relies on good cutting out of the logs with a chainsaw and metal ties hammered in.

Did a few videos of the sawmill in operation. Fascinating. On the level underneath there are long leather belts being driven by the generator which in turn gets much of its power from a water driven wheel.

When Karl had done the one log we went indoors for a lunch snack and a chat. Very pleasant and Karl shared out the left over meat and cheese between the three dogs. He also has a border collie, Sophie, who is just as "bitchy" as Luna - they keep their distance from one another. However both Luna and Flash love Karl.

Back home late to do the animals and finally a late evening walk at the end of a dry sunny day but it was somewhat cool with a strongish east wind.

The cat rescue story continues - will wait to see if it comes to anything.
