Deconstruction

Dear Diary,

Before you can build something new you have to take down something old.  In this case, it is the old deck off my studio.  It has seen one too many winters and the snow careening off the roofs have done a lot of damage.  Greg made short work of the demolition.

Of course, we did find a bit of rot that will need to be attended to but what I saw was a new little garden space.  This one will be a completely no maintenance rock and stone garden (very Zen!) but that will happen next spring.  Now we just have to build a small deck for the door with a roof above to keep snow from piling up too much in front of said door.

The really good news is Greg knows someone who will take the wood for a recycling project!  I will use some to build the new deck and roof so the cost of all this will be less than $500.  Now I won't have to shovel of the snow this winter and that is another worry eliminated!
