Falling Water, Peel Forest

It's been a beautiful day in the bush, so this morning before starting work in the study I decided to take advantage of the fine day and walk up the stream towards the base of Rata Falls.

This waterfall pictured is not actually Rata Falls though, it's the spill over that is fed from the main pool of the falls. Keen spotters will see that there's a rope with loops in the image - I believe this is for those keener and fitter than me to climb the rock wall and make passage the hard way up to the falls. There is of course the more conventional method - the DOC track that goes directly to the actual Rata Falls...

In the other picture you'll see another minor waterfall - this one is the spill over from Emily Falls, which also can be accessed by a DOC track through the bush. The stream that follows down from these falls joins up with the Kowhai Stream.
