The Edge of the Wold

Heron layers

The view from Jack Scout into Morecambe Bay to the sun setting behind the Furness peninsula.  There were many herons out on the flats, but only one that placed itself in the bright water.  It was good to visit this spot again after an absence of a month or so.  From now on the sunsets in the Bay get more spectacular as the sun heads away from the long tongue of land, and the low light picks out all the channels and mudbanks in coloured layers.  This is such a dynamic place too, with the conformation of the mudflats changing utterly within a space of a few weeks.  A freshwater channel has cut through the old reclamation wall that stretches out into the bay (sometimes incorrectly referred to as a skear in this journal).

Otherwise it was a quiet day at home, letting the cold work through the system before I inflict it on my colleagues at work tomorrow.  An opportunity to spend time thinking through what to say in my talk in November.  Wifie says let the images speak for themselves, she's right about most (all?) things.
