Watch out there are Goldcrests about!!

Much cooler today due to the easterly wind bringing cold air from Eastern Europe. My postie told me about snow in Poland as we shivered and thought it was definitely time he ditched the shorts for trousers! Well he is Glaswegian! ;-)

We went for a walk instead of table tennis and not long after we set out I noticed little birds flying around the hedges. I thought they was Blue Tits or maybe Long-tailed Tits. Well you can imagine my delight when I discovered they were Goldcrests!!

With the Firecrest, they are the UK's smallest bird. They're dull greyish-green with a pale belly and a black and yellow stripe on their heads, which has an orange centre in males. Their thin beak is ideally suited for picking insects out from between pine needles. Pine forests are the best places to see goldcrests, but they range around in flocks of other small birds during autumn and winter. They're widespread and common across the whole of the UK; in autumn, large numbers arrive on the east coast from Scandinavia and make their way across dunes to more suitable habitat.

So the results for this week's Mono Monday ROCK challenge. With seven pages to look through and with so many excellent interpretations, it was even harder than last week to decide who gets the hearts.

Hearts, in no particular order, go to

Bunty for Bear Rock
Rock by BrianH
The Rock by audioengineer
Rock Hard by TheAphid
Staring down the barrel of a bass by ChrisGroucutt

Thanks for the terrific entries I'll be announcing next week's theme on here towards the end of the week and on the Facebook Blipfoto Friends Group.
