Little Kamau

Today was another busy day of visitors to the Restart Orphanage. We had a teacher and his family visit from the local prep school, some guests from the British High Commission and around a dozen pupils from a UK school. The pupils from the UK school actually visited on Sunday as well, but liked spending time with the children so much that came back to spend the afternoon with them again. It was a national holiday today so the children were all off school, so having the visitors was a great distraction.
The picture today is of me with little Kamau.  Kamau between two and three years old. He was abandoned by his mother who left him and his brother in a locked shack to starve to death. He was eventually saved by neighbours and brought to Restart. Sadly his brother didn't survive.
At the moment he is not very talkative, if you ask him anything the answer is always 'YES'. "Are you flying to the moon today Kamau?"
"YES madam".
One of the visitors to the orphanage was an expert in digital strategy, so I spent the afternoon talking to him at the orphanage about our online presence issues. During this meeting Kamau came into the office and decided to sit on my lap for an hour having a cuddle. He was a bit miserable and I eventually got it out of him that he had fallen off one of the swings.
Early evening I had an online chat with two of my closest friends who live out in Turkey. It was lovely to have a chat with them and great to hear what they are up to.
Tomorrow I am looking forward to seeing a good Kenyan friend of mine and some old faces from my previous work visits to Kenya.
