Conjoined

The end of the busy week, and what better way to ease the cares away than a walk in the bush.

We've got a guest with us for a couple of nights as Daring2Go has come down to visit. J and I wandered around Dennistoun Bush this afternoon, and she marvelled at the the giant totara, matai and kahikatea that call it home.

We've both posted the same magnificent matai today - it's a superb specimen, reaching over 25 metres into the forest canopy and one that's probably been standing for half a millennium.

There's a bench close to the foot of this magnificent tree, and sitting there bathing in the serenity of the bush I've always thought of it as a pair of conjoined twins - one trunk, but splitting into two magnificent trees that both spread in their own directions.
