Floundering

This fisherman may be hoping to catch a Flounder brought in on the tide.

Flounders is the name given to several types of flatfish. The curious thing about them is that when they are born they have an eye on each side of the head but as they grow one eye migrates so that they end up with two eyes on the same side of their head.
This allows them to lay on their side and still have good vision.

Flounder numbers have sadly been declining. Twenty years ago there were a number of restaurants in the are where you could eat Flounder. But it seems less common now. But there is a fish and chip shop in Flookburgh called Flounders.
