My Life in Pictures

Day 8 on Ocracoke Island

8 miles down, 2 to go…will probably surpass the goal as we don’t leave for home until next week!

It was raining when we woke up. Ate out for breakfast again. I was in the mood for pancakes and Pony Island Restaurant serves the best buttermilk pancakes. Newby had the restaurant’s pancake specialty: peanut butter-stuffed pancakes.

I thought we weren’t going to walk today, but while we were cleaning up at the cottage after breakfast, the sun suddenly came out, and out we went!

We walked along the waterfront where the marina is. Very scenic. Cool and breezy. Ended the first mile with a visit to the beach at Springer's Point where Blackbeard was captured and killed almost 300 years ago. My sports walker's wheels don't work very well over the dry part of the beach, but they roll good at the waterline, where the sand is firm.

After lunch at the cottage, there was another break in the weather again, so we decided to go for another mile through the village.

After walking, we toured the lighthouse. They opened the door for the first time this year after many years of being boarded, and we were allowed to tour the inside of the lighthouse. However, the stairs to the top (pictured) was still closed, which was disappointing. However, the exhibit on the ground floor was excellent and we enjoyed it.

Dinner was at Howard’s Pub…another seafood platter for me.

Looks like it’s going to rain through the weekend. Not happy about that.
