Learning day by day

Excitement!

Wow he was excited this morning, but not so much that we didn't get a cuddle before getting up. He had had Happy Birthday sung to him from two cousins before 07.30. Opened his presents after that. The books were the biggest hit, Stink Murphy Collection (which Carys has her eye on) and Frankie's magic Football Collection. He was also pleased with his present from us, which was his first proper camera. He then had Happy Birthday sung to him by Nanna and Poppa before we left for Drayton Manor at 09.00.

His other cousins left an answer machine song as we were travelling when they rang, so three renditions before 09.30, not bad for a six year old. It was hacking down when we left and I had packed full waterproofs and snorkel and masks too. However when we arrived at Drayton Manor it had stopped raining and we stayed dry all day. According to Will he had "The best birthday yet Mummy!". They went on most things in Thomasland, he was a little red in the face after Troublesome Trucks (which he hated two years ago) but still insisted on going on Ben 10. He is a strange boy, on Ben 10 he very nearly cried, at least on the first two times, but declared it his favourite ride and went on it three more times.

He has a lunch out to look forward to on Friday, a few cards and a present that arrived in the post today to open tomorrow and then  of course his party, which has been delayed until after half term.

I can't tell you how much this boy has grown in the last year. He is the most amazingly affectionate and funny little boy. He makes people laugh all the time and it will get him a long way in life. He has done so well at school (something that worried me when he started, as I didn't know that he would deal with the rigours our school demands, instead he has lapped it up and asked for more), his reading has soared and so has his thirst for knowledge. He has been elected to the school council by his class, something I am waiting to blip when he finally receives his badge, and according to his teacher is statesman like when he reports back from meetings. His tennis coach thought he was a short seven year old from his ability and attitude and was taken aback and had to check with me when Will told him he was only five. More than anything he lights up the room when he walks in, don't get me wrong he is also annoying and irritating at times (as his sister will attest to) however those times are far fewer than in the past and his sense of humour and his general affection to those he loves, out way everything else.
