Davenport's Magic Kingdom

We were in for a treat today. The long awaited day, when we had booked in to visit the giant, non descript air-hanger type building on the outskirts of North Walsham. Ever since we moved up from Cambridge in April, we have passed it almost weekly, on our way to buy crickets at the Aquatics centre. The enticing sign advertising magic, proved irresistible in the end, and tickets were booked for today.

We arrived in time & were welcomed by 'Bill' who immediately shared a few magic tricks. Close up - we couldn't believe our eyes.

From there we were taken as a group (8 of us) on a personal tour, again by Bill, where he gave a detailed history of witchcraft and how witches were treated in medieval times. Then we were left to explore the exhibits. Vintage & antique magic memorabilia. The Davenport family have been making magic for over 100 years!

We were lead into a mock up of the first Davenport magic shop from London 1920's. Again, a magician had us captivated with tricks, jokes, historical information and his general personality.

Further exhibits (you can see Henry being levitated by Paul Daniels as Jon looks on!) were followed by the final magic show by Roy Davenport himself, in a small mock up theatre. A talented magician who pulled flowers from nowhere, linked & unlinked Chinese rings & juggled billiard balls between the fingers on one hand! Plus loads more I can't remember. All amazing!

We returned for a quick lunch then in to Cromer for the amusement arcade fix. It is holiday time after all!

Finished the day next door with pizza, wine and Pictionary! Love those family board games. A lovely day for us all with Manda & the children. Just missed Bruce & Daniel - but next time hopefully?
