Wet

We can't really complain; it's only the second wet day in over a month. However, when I went into town to do some shopping I was peeved to find all the shops closed, and got soaked for nothing in the short trip from the car to the closed supermarket. This was puzzling, because yesterday was a public holiday (All Saints) and as far as we knew today was a normal working day.

So when I got back and had towelled myself dry, I did some googling. It turns out that the Spanish government, concerned about international competitiveness, has decided to minimise the number of puentes -- those days between a weekend and a public holiday when large numbers of people decide they won't bother to go to work  (we have them in France too, albeit not quite as many). So they devised a list of "substitutable" public holidays which could be moved to the nearest Friday or Monday -- it's up to the autonomous regions to decide whether they want to do that. Cue confusion; and also the perverse effect that most regions, including Aragon, decided to make 2 November a public holiday, as All Saints fell on a Sunday, thus creating a puente where none existed! Not quite the intent of the legislation I feel ...

Well, you really wanted to know that, I'm sure. Today's photo is a blip of despair taken through the window, in driving rain, and then massively cropped and fiddled with in Lightroom to try and make it slightly more interesting. There aren't going to be many leaves left by the end of the day.

Edit: and later, bad weather redeemed by roasting chestnuts over the open fire and eating them cosily on the sofa with butter, sea salt, and a glass of wine -- bliss! The chestnuts here are superb.
