Set Free

Dear Diary,

This time of year the milkweed pods burst open and set free their seeds.  The silky tufts attached, which allow them to float in the air currents, are one of the most delicate beauties of Nature.

The seed pods, on the other hand, are not especially attractive.  Their rough exterior belie what waits inside.  I've always thought it an apt metaphor for some people.  We see their rough and gruff exteriors without appreciating that they too could hold something delicate and beautiful inside.

My practice of contemplative photography has opened my eyes to look at images as much more than mere compositions of light and shadow.  There are often pearls of wisdom hidden in plain sight if one takes the time to look deeply.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
