Cortachy Walk

My friend L. and I had arranged this walk last week when the weather was fine, so we were dismayed to wake up to thick fog this morning.  However, we met up as planned in Forfar, also covered in mist, and drove towards Cortachy in the Angus Glens.

As soon as we got near Kirriemuir, the fog lifted and we had a glorious few hours to do the walk along the bank of the River South Esk.  The autumn colours against the water were just lovely and we sat in the sunshine enjoying our picnic lunch.

The climb took us up a small hill - and straight back into the mist again, which then persisted for the rest of the day and the drive home was really quite unpleasant.  Hard to believe we'd had such a window of opportunity, as my husband said the fog hadn't lifted all day at home!

The main photo shows L. leading the way along the leaf-strewn path with the river rushing along below us.  The extra is of Cortachy Castle.  So glad we didn't cancel:-)
