Bowood 2015 #47 (Sunday 1st November 2015)

When I rolled up at Bowood on Sunday, one of the staff asked if I had been waiting in the car so I could be their last visitor of the year. Looking at the foggy view he suggested I would be hard put to get a decent picture on such a day, but I was pleased because I would get a very different set of shots to those I had found on Friday, and it was the first time this year that Bowood had had such a day.

I sauntered through the Pinetum and across the Archery Lawn down towards the Lake. I noticed a round English oak I didn't think I had photographed before. The prominent trees by the Lake in the blip are Lombardy poplars and I also took a shot of the nearby alder, and enjoyed the masking effect of the mists over the water.

When I reached the Lake I was delighted to find the pair of swans accompanied by the three cygnets that I had presumed lost, now full size. It was if the swans had been showing them off as a finale for Bowood's last opening day of the year. One of the cygnets came close, by scooping up morsels from the water with its bill. All three cygnets can be seen in the Extras, as well as a sepia version of the Blip

So that's it for Bowood until next March, although there are still some public footpath walks over the Estate to be enjoyed over the Winter.
