Mis-shapen Tree

The clue to this tree's shape is available to you.  I'd got quite excited when I left home, a wide area of clear sky sat to the east and a front of cloud above.  Unfortunately as dawn approached the clear sky got narrow and narrower.  When the sun finally rose, it had disappeared again within 3 minutes.  No underlit cloud, just this thin strip of yellow.
