The Road Home

Some winters arrive suddenly, with a heavy snowfall, or a chain of hard frosts. This is not one of those winters. Here we are, half-way through November, and I’m still tagging my photographs with “autumn”.  There have been a couple of frosts but nothing too spectacular, and no snow at all.
But there are signs that despite all that winter is creeping nearer and nearer. It’s dark earlier and earlier, this picture’s taken at 15:20 and it’s almost too dark to handhold the camera. The lake (and our water butt) is covered in a skim of ice. It’s snowing on the coast about 5 hours drive north of here in Luleå. The long term forecast says it’ll be below freezing all day and night from next Friday onwards.
But still no snow, and that’s what we want now!
Our various contacts in Paris are all OK. It's so very sad to think how many people won't be able to say that.
