If you can't beat them...

Winter Droving.

For a number of years now Penrith has been having a winter droving procession.   I suppose the idea is based on the days when live stock were taken from place to place by droving.. As winter approached surplus stock would be slaughtered as winter feed was difficult.  So many animals would be being taken along the droving routes to market.

There is a large procession with bands, many people in costume (predominately animals) torches and for want of a better word lanterns.  However some of these "lanterns" are huge and move on carts or are carried by 4 or 6 people.  This is a detail of a stag (new for this years procession I think) the animal itself must have been 8 or 10 feet high.

I nearly used a shot of the ferries wheel and roundabout but decided on this.  Despite the weather which was foul there was a good turn out and the evening seemed to be a success.  Anyway it provided a blip which is always useful.
