Storm warning!

Today was the day for our cross-state road trip. The day dawned cloudy and humid and the high temperature soared to nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit. On the return trip, we drove into Columbus, Ohio, at rush hour. Never a good time! At the same time, it was struck by hurricane-like winds, heavy rain, and flying objects that toppled huge tractor-trailers on the highway and left 200,000 homes without power.

Those without power included the restaurant where we had looked forward to a quiet meal and a break from the storm. None of the restaurants were open, so we hit the highway again, only to be stopped by traffic backed up by a truck lying on its side along the road. Progress was slow, very slow, but we finally reached a restaurant that was open about an hour north. Eventually we arrived home at 11 pm, exhausted but safe. The trip had started at 7 am, so it was a long day, and an adventure I don't want to repeat.
