Stairway to Heaven

Off to the wilds of Enniskeen this morning to collect some samples for fabric for new curtains to go with all the new decor. A surprisingly posh and well stocked shop next to a teeny funeral home and an agricultural shop selling large blue tractors. Geraldine was very helpful and I was allowed to take the book home where, amazingly, Himself and I agreed on the same fabric! I shall have to return tomorrow to place an order and then find someone to make curtains. I am useless at sewing.

A little treat on the way home and a visit to the only hexagonal based round tower in Ireland. It doesn't get much more thrilling than that! There's one other example in County Cork but it doesn't have a fancy base like this one - 60 scattered around Ireland. Current thinking is they were cloicteach  - bell towers for a nearby church or monastery and date from around 950AD. This one is 20m high and has five storeys The entrance is high up round the otherside and would have involved a ladder. There are a few teeny square windows. The wonderfully named St Mocholomog  might have been responsible as he endowed a little church nearby.

Chips and arthouse tonight: Mia Madre - Italian. A film about patience and sombertude (?) apparently. Will report back.

Stairway to Heaven still good.
