Derelict Sunday : Blacker Monumental Works

While we haven't had to suffer the rain that Cumbria and Scotland have experienced, it has certainly been dark, dismal and yes, wet.  Still, I have managed to buy "the tree" so that is one more Christmas task ticked off the list.

This is a shot of the side of the Blacker family stone mason works in Clutton in Somerset.  The business was run by the Blacker family father to son from 1716 when it was initially established.  They created tombstones for those buried in cemeteries in the area.

At first their home and workshop was located in the St. Augustines churchyard at Clutton but later they moved it to its present location west of the church on the A37.  As you can see, the buildings are now empty and have clearly seen better days.

Many thanks to sdg92 for hosting the Derelict challenge, together with Maisiebeth.
