It's all down to point of view?

Or, more accurately possibly, your view point. 
We wandered into the new M&S. Now there's another complaint - the way we are starting to write/speak in TXT, we no longer have the time to say Marks & Spencer, it's M&S, Caledonian MacBrayne has become Calmac, etc. - DON'T start me.
Anyway, as we left for the Car park I spotted what looked like "All Sly".
It wasn't until I moved a little it became "Gail Sly".
Question is why would anybody want to announce the fact?
