Making Something Nice Day 3

The day when one became two. After I had tidied up the little walnut inserts, I gave the box its initial sanding then put it through the bandsaw to split the lid from the base.

Very physical work today, once the parts are split, the sawn surfaces have to be moved back and forward over an abrasive board until all the saw marks are removed.

This afternoon I rolled the edges of the box on the router. I had quite liked the crisp angular look of the mitred corners, but rounding everything off makes the item much more handleable and bumps and bangs will be less obvious.

In view of the persistent rain, I did some shopping today, a £550 flood defence board for the door!
