The Iron Bridge.

I went for a short walk to Stourbridge Common. The iron footbridge crosses the railway line and takes you to Ditton Meadows. I spent many happy hours as a youngster playing in this area. We would go to the top of  the bridge and hope to see a train speed past. Much of Ditton Meadows now has commercial depots built on the land where we would fish for tiddlers in the streams with our nets and jam jars and pick bunches of the wild violets. Another game was playing hide and seek in the fields full of dog daisies which grew to a height of 3 feet. Until I moved last spring I hadn't really been in this area for many years and it brings back many carefree memories. Our mum would pack us sandwiches and a drink and off we would go for hours. Nobody worried as we used our common sense, and we had never heard of 'elf 'n' safety. Halcyon days indeed.
