Fabulous Friday Face: Bill

My "Fabulous Friday Face" for this week is Bill,  a guest at the annual Christmas Day dinner served by our church to anyone who comes in the door. Some people come because they don't have enough food at home, others because they don't want to cook a big meal and eat alone. For some, the meal is a necessity, while for others it is a social occasion, providing both food and fellowship. I talked to one guest who told me that her food stamps were enough to get the food she needed, but she didn't want to eat alone on Christmas Day. When I asked Bill if I could take his picture, he said the only thing he was concerned about was the walk back home, a distance of about two miles. It had started to drizzle when he arrived, and he was hoping he wouldn't have to walk home in the rain.

Many members of our church, along with others from the community who just wanted to help, had gathered the day before to cook the turkeys and all the other fixings that go with a turkey dinner, and to set the tables with table cloths and holiday centerpieces. When I got there on Christmas morning, the large fellowship hall was filled to overflowing with a crowd of happy people, both guests and volunteers. What a wonderful way to spend Christmas.
