Derelict Sunday - Old School

We went to Gainford to visit Mrs madwill's mum who had not been well yesterday - but seems to have recovered nicely.

I went out with Finlay for a walk along the river there (the Tees) and it was quite fast flowing and there was plenty of evidence of it having been much higher recently.

I wandered along to this old derelict building on the outskirts of the village. It was originally built as an orphanage around 1900 and become an 'approved school' (or borstal!) around 1940. In the late 1980s it was turned into a nursing home which finally closed in 1997. It has lain empty ever since and is in a serious state of decay.

There are plans to redevelop the site - maybe re-using some of the buildings there.

The main shot is the front of what appears to be the main entrance building - there are extensive structures behind and to the left. A couple of extras of the same building from different angles
