Above And Beyond...

Cardiff City Centre

It's been a lovely sunny day so I decided to do another aerial photo. I did one about this time last year, but thought I do a view of the city centre over Cardiff Castle motte looking towards Cardiff City Hall and the Big Wheel outside it which is part of Winter Wonderland that finishes in a few days. (I took a ground view here just before Christmas.)

The Norman motte built about 1082 and covered a 3rd century Roman fort underneath. The original wooden keep was replaced by a stone one about 1135. In the 13th century, the Black Tower near the main entrance was built by the de Clare family who owned the Castle at the time. They later went on to build Caerphilly Castle which is near Cardiff.

In 1423, the Castle was owned by Richard de Beauchamp who built Warwick Castle. He built a new accommodation and a tower which now forms the middle part of the House at Cardiff Castle.

I'm off to watch Cardiff City play Nottingham Forest tonight. We've lost the last two games so a win would be nice to finish the year off!
