Feeding the Ducks

I felt a little bit the worse for wear when the Little Misses woke up at about 7.30am. Surprisingly not hungover but completely exhausted. Luckily the Little Misses set off downstairs and I managed to get back to sleep. I woke up in a panic after dreaming that it was 4.20pm and everyone was judging me for sleeping all day!!
We had a scrummy breakfast of croissants, bacon, toast, mulled wine jam and lots and lots of tea.
Then there was some sort of weird time shift and suddenly it was lunchtime and we were tucking into more cheese and bread and chicken and lots of other lovely leftovers.
Then Mrs Z made us go out for a walk!
It was actually nice to get out and the children all had a nice run around. We stopped at a pond to feed the ducks and there was a heartbreaking moment with Miss L. She looked very sad and turned away from the water. When I asked what was wrong she tearfully whispered that the ducks didn't like her bread. I tried to cheer her up saying there was so much bread the ducks couldn't eat it all at once. She said "no, they're spitting it out"
Bless her!
I should just think the ducks weren't used to hard, cold gluten free pizza crusts!!
We walked through the freezing howling gale to the park and there was muddy swinging, sliding and bouncing. It came to a bit of a premature end when Miss L spectacularly slipped down a hill on her bum and landed in her puddle. She almost got catapulted face first into the mud so it could have been worse!!
She was covered in mud and bawling. Didn't want to be wet and muddy, didn't want to go home, didn't want to move, didn't want to leave the park, didn't want to be out any more. Irrational and screechy. Lovely!!!
We got home eventually, stripped her off at the door, hosed her down, got her into her jim-jams and all was well again.
The rest of the afternoon was spent with the adults sitting on the sofas eating shortbread and chocolate biscuits, drinking tea and watching the hilarious Bring the Noise. The children roller-skated, played on iPads, painted pictures, made loom band bracelets, watched TV in the other room and generally had a lovely time while the grown ups ignored them!!
We eventually left at about 6pm. The Little Misses both fell asleep on the way home and went straight to their beds.
Mr K and I ate bread and cheese and attempted to watch Sherlock. Mr K couldn't keep his eyes open so we gave up!
2016 has got off to a pretty good start.
