Enchanting waters

Whether or not living close to the waterfront is a blessing just now depends in which part of the country you are in.
Some of the news reports from parts of the country currently ravaged by storms and flooding are frightening and you cannot imagine just how devastating the impact of rising water levels can be when encroaching on your home or business.
Yet on the other hand, in normal weather patterns, proximity to the waterfront is enchanting, and it has  always been my dream to have a place by the water.  Not every corner of the coastline or river frontage is  as picturesque as this spot in Hamble in the centre of sailing activity of Solent Waters.
Yet even here I have seen river levels encroaching into the roadway and across the foreshore carpark. Admittedly storms and rainfall were nothing like the levels we have seen in northern parts of the country just recently.
So my dream remains. Indeed it was one of the reasons that I first moved to the Southampton area, following an attraction of being able to live and work nearby the waterfront. Indeed the port and the business of big ships as well as sailing  and leisure craft were for many years part of my working life.as a business journalist.
At one time we did have a place close to this spot in Hamphire, although not by the Hamble River itself.  But we always held a pride that from the bedroom window we could command a view through the trees across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.

Dreams or not, I shall keep returning to this spot .
