Spoilt for Choice!

The appearance today of a red-headed male Downy Woodpecker?

Or the view through a glass of delicious Sancerre wine at the food co-op's class tonight on "A French Winter Meal"?

It's after 10pm my time on Tuesday, so I'm sharing both with you! (See Mr. Downy Woodpecker and curious friend in the extras.)

Here's what we watched being prepared and then enjoyed ourselves over the 2.5 hour class: (1) a single delicious local oyster with Mornay sauce; (2) perfect and perfectly simple chicken broth; (3) mussels and clams (because there weren't enough mussels available) Marseilles; (4) exquisite daube de boeuf a la provençale and (5) a small, delicious, freshly made chocolate eclair.

The wines were Domaine Daulny Sancerre, which we liked so much that a case has been ordered, and Maison Roche de Belleni Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vielles Vignes 2012. Chef Robert Fong was the main instructor, ably seconded by Karina Davidson, who teaches cooking classes here and leads cooking tours in Paris -- very tempting for 2017!

(I'm still giddy from the heady heights of Popular's page 1 and working my way through "thank yous" to all who put me there, and the wonderful "buzz" on Blipfoto now that the road to stability seems clear.)
