Elvis Presley vs Junkie XL - A Little Less Conversation (Remix) (original recording June 1968, remixed 2001)
A Little Less Conversation was written by singer-songwriter Mac Davis from Lubbock TX and the guitarist/arranger Billy Strange, and this day marks the 74th birthday of Mac Davis, who had also provided the songs Memories and In The Ghetto for Elvis.
Elvis recorded the song on 7 March 1968 in Nashville. Take 16 came out on a single, coupled with Almost In Love, whilst Take 10 was used in the film Live A Little, Love A Little (no, neither do I) and its subsequent soundtrack album.
However, in 2001 the remixer Junkie XL became the first person outside the Elvis estate to be allowed access to the Elvis mastertapes for remixing and overdubbing, and prepared a beefier version of the song for use in the film Ocean's Eleven. He chose a later Elvis recording of the song from June 1968 that Elvis had prepared for his legendary comeback TV special but hadn't used. It already featured backing vocals from Darlene Love and the Blossoms, and Junkie XL added extra horns and brass and heavier bass. It became a big hit single and this extended version was used in a Nike advertisement.
