But, then again . . . . .

Rosslyn Monkey.

This character lurks in a corner of the chapel. I was allowed in with a camera as I was taking pictures for an official project that I mentioned about a week ago, but now discover comes under the jurisdiction of an official secrets act. I hadn’t realised that I would be allowed to use a flashgun or a tripod (photography is not generally allowed inside) so, although I have a useful set of working photographs, I shall make use of the circumstances to return better prepared and reshoot. It was noticed that, while I was there with my official badge and escort, paying visitors were surreptitiously brandishing their mobile phones. It was also noticed that the staff just quietly moved away so that they wouldn’t see what was happening. This information probably also falls under the auspices of the previously mentioned act.

It is worth noting that we do not actually know, not for certain anyway, that this is really meant to be a monkey but, if we make allowances for the fifteenth century knowledge of exotic species, it is entirely plausible.
